FUNCTIONAL FAMILY THERAPY (FFT) PROGRAM

What is the FFT
Program?
Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an
evidence-based family-based prevention and intervention program. It is
designed
to work with high
risk children and teens, ages 11 to 18, that are at-risk or already
involved with the juvenile justice system and their family members in developing
their inner strengths and abilities to improve their situations. The program
focuses on youth who exhibit maladaptive, acting out behaviors, or have a high
risk of and/or present with delinquency, violence, substance use/abuse and/or
serious mental health disorders, including those with co-occurring serious
emotional disturbances and substance abuse disorders.
Services provided by the FFT Program include family counseling, crisis
intervention, support in school re-entry, vocational preparation and support,
and mentoring. The long-term goal of FFT is to achieve greater
self-sufficiency, reduce recidivism, decrease the need for future treatment and
lower the systematic costs over time.
The
program also provides a strong, community-based aftercare component providing
overarching case management for youth in the juvenile justice system with a high
risk of recidivism. The aftercare component is closely coordinated with Fresno
County Probation and Juvenile Court.
